A hearing aid is a programmable electronic device that amplifies and shapes sound to compensate for sensorineural hearing loss. Prices quoted by clinics typically bundle the device itself, the audiologist's fitting and programming, follow-up adjustments for the first year or two, and a manufacturer warranty. Styles include behind-the-ear (BTE), receiver-in-canal (RIC), in-the-ear (ITE), and completely-in-canal (CIC), with feature tiers from basic to premium driving much of the price spread.
