For uninsured patients or those using private hospitals, costs are significantly lower than in the United States but represent substantial expenses relative to Mexican incomes. A private hospital stay costs approximately $2,000-8,000 MXN per day ($100-400 USD) depending on the facility and city.

Private hospital procedure costs include appendectomy at $30,000-80,000 MXN ($1,500-4,000 USD), hip replacement at $150,000-300,000 MXN ($7,500-15,000 USD), coronary bypass at $300,000-600,000 MXN ($15,000-30,000 USD), and normal childbirth at $20,000-50,000 MXN ($1,000-2,500 USD). Cesarean section rates in Mexico are among the highest in the world at approximately 46%, with private hospitals having rates exceeding 70%, driven partly by financial incentives.

Mexico has approximately 1.0 hospital beds per 1,000 population, significantly below the OECD average. Private hospitals, particularly in major cities, offer modern facilities and equipment comparable to US standards. Major private hospital groups include Angeles Health System (with 28 hospitals), Star Medica, and Christus Muguerza. Emergency care is available through the 911 system, with public emergency rooms treating all patients regardless of insurance status.
